Summertime is a great opportunity for school-age kids to read books of their own choosing. Help your child maintain their reading level this summer by guiding them to books they’ll love to read. Barbara J. Feldman, Surfing the Net with Kids syndicated columnist and avid reader, compiled a collection of award-winning book lists and put them all on one convenient page. Readers can siphon out the cream of this summer’s crop of good books with one click. Studies show that children can lose skills over the summer, particularly if they don’t read. Some of the book lists are geared toward maintaining grade-level reading skills, while others give kids suggestions of fun reading.
If you and your kids don’t need extra prodding to read, you’ll want to check out the New York Public Library’s book list. Included are titles and authors for all age levels, and also a function to log your reading minutes. Or perhaps you would like to know what children all over the world are reading, in which case you can find PDF versions of book titles that kids recommended. The unique part of this site is that the book reviews are submitted by kids.
Kindergarten to Soccer Mom, the Summer Reading compilation has something for everyone. Ms. Feldman said this about the web page: “Beaches and books just seem to go together, but even if your summer plans do not include any beaches, hopefully it will still include some warm, lazy days curled up with a good book.” She made it easy with this cool collection of book lists. All of these fresh links support PDF printouts so you can take your finds to the library with you.
